S Simon Maybury

I translate complexity
into simplicity.

How I work

Across every role, the pattern has been consistent: identify the pain, shape the solution, translate between business and engineering, and communicate clearly to create alignment and action.

ABOUT

Client-facing expertise. Technical depth.

In a sentence

I work at the intersection of consultative problem-solving and software — on complex, multi-stakeholder problems where both halves of that profile matter every day.

Over six years leading the design and delivery of €5–10m projects for clients who arrived with ambiguous needs, competing priorities, and hard constraints. The work was discovery, options, technical proofs of concept, trade-off conversations, scope negotiation – and aligning everyone, from end-users to engineers to senior decision-makers, around a solution that could actually be built.

With a background in architecture and technology, I combine creative solutions with technical problem solving. I can code, but I prefer to be the bridge between customers and engineers — turning ambiguous business needs into solutions that get built, shipped, and used.

CORE SKILLS

What I bring to the table.

01

Discovery & framing

Client discovery on high-value projects, uncovering underlying and emerging pain points, synthesising complex stakeholder needs into structured solution strategies, and framing solutions effectively for both business and technical audiences.

02

Solution design

Tailored solution strategies for complex client requirements, using comparative solution design and bespoke POCs to demonstrate value, clarify trade-offs, and build stakeholder confidence and buy-in.

03

Narrative communication

Delivery of narrative-driven presentations and technical demonstrations to secure stakeholder buy-in. Practised in distilling complex topics for non-technical audiences.

04

Commercial instinct

Support RFI responses and tender documentation to secure new work, provide commercial input through fee and contract negotiations, and articulate solution value as scope and delivery requirements evolve.

05

Technical depth

MSc Computer Science (1.1, UCD) and ARB-qualified architect, with strong technical depth across Python, Java, Node.js, TypeScript, React, Spring Boot, PostgreSQL, and Docker, and credibility engaging directly with engineering teams.

06

AI fluency

Experienced user of modern AI tooling — including Claude, Claude Code, and Figma-to-code workflows — applying agentic and iterative design approaches to prototype, design, and ship solutions faster than traditional workflows allow.

SmartTrip NYC

Itinerary planning with real-time busyness data

A full-stack web app for planning trips to New York — search, filter, save, and route around real-time crowd levels at each attraction. Built as a team of four over a single semester. I led UI/UX, owned the frontend and ran the user story / acceptance criteria backlog.

Community + events platform · built with an AI-native workflow

A solo build exploring how far Figma + Claude Code can take a single designer-developer. Explore feed, community discussions, and a host-your-own-event flow — designed end-to-end and shipped using a deliberate AI workflow I’ve been refining over the year.

The Space

Cultural / community building in cross-laminated timber

A flexible community space constructed in CLT, carefully balancing acoustic performance, daylighting, and material efficiency within a tight budget. Delivered through complex procurement conditions during the COVID-19 pandemic, requiring clear and consistent communication across stakeholders. Highly Commended at the New London Architecture Awards 2021.

Crow’s Nest

New-build private dwelling, south-east coast of England

A new-build private home on the south-east English coast. I led the project through a challenging planning process involving multiple specialist stakeholders — sustained back-and-forth with the council, and clear communication with the client about progress and risk along the way. Securing planning unlocked £300k of revenue, and required me to get up to speed quickly on each stakeholder’s priorities and articulate how the scheme addressed every one of them.

06 - MY JOURNEY

Solution Designer.
Across different mediums.

I qualified as an architect in London after a Bachelor of Architecture at TU Dublin and a Postgraduate Diploma in Professional Practice at the University of Westminster. Six years at IF_DO and ODOS taught me how to lead complex projects, work with senior clients, and ship things that have to actually stand up.

In 2024 I moved back to Dublin and added the technical foundation: an MSc in Computer Science at UCD, completed with First Class Honours, fluent in modern web development and engaged with how AI is changing the way software gets built.

Two disciplines, one operating model — commercial instinct shaped by senior client work, paired with current, hands-on technical depth.
